Ross Road School

Excel

OVERVIEW

The EXCEL Program offers before school, lunch, and after school program as a childcare option for parents in your school community.  Each individual school principal has the option of selecting which programs he/she wishes EXCEL to offer.

The EXCEL Program operates throughout the school year beginning on the first day of school in September until the last day of classes in June.  EXCEL does not operate on in-service days, holidays, March Break, Professional Development days, storm days, or any other occasion where the school may be closed.  EXCEL does offer extended hours during parent-teacher interview days.

The EXCEL Program provides a wide variety of activities for your child and operates at the school site (or very close). In schools that offer before school care, parents may drop their child(ren) off early in the morning and have the security that their child is in good hands until they pick them up at night. Activities are planned by Head Instructors at each individual school. Generally the topics included are art, reading, creative play, games, science, occasional outings and special guests. The children spend time outdoors every day (weather permitting) and most schools provide an active play area. A nutritious snack is served during the after school program.

The Lunch Program is a supervisory program.  Excel staff monitor children in the designated eating areas and also on the playground or other area after eating.  The ratios of staff to student are 30:1 for our lunch programs. Children are required to bring their own lunch.  Smaller lunch programs may sometimes provide a microwave for warming up lunches.
